    Password asked when opening file

File A has link to File B, and File A gets automatically updated each time File B changes. Only File A is password protected.
When opening File A, of course, the password is asked. When File B is opened, Excel 2010 still asks for the password for File A, even though File A is already open. That is annoying and was not the case in Excel 2007. When opening File B, the password for File A was only asked if File A was not yet open.
Is there a way to do the same in 2010?

Re: Password asked when opening file

    Hi,

I've just tried this in 2007 & 2010 and don't see that behaviour. They both allow File B to be opened without prompting for the FileA password.

Sounds like it might be one of the Excel options parameter settings being different between 2007 & 2010. Have you compared them all?

    Regards

If there is an option that allows this to be set then I don't know where it is...

Unless there's a call in the file B to make a change...etc in file A on open, then naturally the password will be required.

Re: Password asked when opening file

The password prompt when opening File B comes up with or without changes in File B that would update File A. Still looking for a way to switch that off, at least when File A is already open.
