    Order of Operations for Percent Calculation

    when you do (1+22*4%) = 1.88 but if you do (23*4%) = 0.92 why? Please help me.

    Hello
    Its the order of operations that Excel uses. Multiplication before addition. If you enter your first formula as:

    =(1+22)*4%

    With parentheses, () around the addition, it forces the addition to be done before the multiplication. Without them the calculation is 22*4% then it adds 1. Calculations in parentheses () always get performed first. The order is Brackets; Indices/Powers; Division; Multiplication; Addition; Subtraction. BIDMAS

    The first one is taking 4% of 22 (0.88) and then adding it on to 1, as multiplication takes priority over addition, whereas the second one is just taking 4% of 23 (.92). You probably want to do this in the first one:

    (1+22)*4%
