How to bring back data based on a range of numbers

I am trying to enter a formula to bring back data based on a certain number. The number may be a whole number or not, like 1 or 1.31, but I need it to tell me what is in Column B if that number is in the range in column A. Like:

    Column A Column B
    0-4 15
    5-9 20

    Any help is MUCH appreciated!!

Re: How to bring back data based on a range of numbers

First of all, change the values in column A (or insert a new column A) so that they only contain the starting point of the range, like this:

    0 ... 15
    5 ... 20

    and then you can use:

    =VLOOKUP(your_cell,A1:B2,2)

change your_cell to the cell reference where your number is located. Also, change the range A1:B2 to represent your real table of data.

Incidentally, with the range that you had, where would a number like 4.5 fit in ?

    Hope this helps.
