Use count if cell is colored

Hi! I am new to the forum. I have some Excel formula experience and virtually no VBA experience.

I would like to use COUNT only if the cell is colored. Most everything I have seen says I need to use VBA for colored cells, but I cannot figure out how to use for my application.

The question is, How do I make the formula below effective only on colored cells?
    =COUNT(G3:G5)+1

    Leave.xlsm

Or if someone has a better way I am all ears. I am creating a product for our leave requests. I am trying to keep the everyday inputs simple. The people who will be operating the spreadsheet do not have any excel experience.

I would like for the person inputting the schedule to highlight a few cells. Once the cells have been highlighted, I would like a function such as Count, to input a number based off of the number of colored cells in the column above that particular cell. Sometimes cells are deleted and I would like the cells in the rows below to automatically update. I then have conditional formatting set up to change the color of the cell based off of the number in the cell.

    Thanks in Advance

I did not see anything applicable to what I am trying to do.

But I came up with a different work around. I created a column with the count formula for each row. When information is inputted in the worksheet the operator will be required to copy a cell in column D (which contains the desired formula) and paste it into the appropriate spot on the row.

Attached is a copy of my worksheet. If anyone has any other ideas that may be simpler for future applications, please let me know.

    Leave3.xlsm
