Getting the value of a cell based on adjacent cell

    Hi all,

    First time poster here.
    was hoping for some direction.

    I have these 2 tables

    sample.JPG

The ID2 counts the instances in which ID1 and Name1 appear. I want to populate the Name2 column with the matching name from the fist table.

I use vlookup to match the two ID columns but how do I populate the Name2 column?

I want the result to look like this - sample2.JPG

    Thanks

    Use..
    In E2
    =VLOOKUP(D2,$A$2:$B$5,2,FALSE)
    and copy down
    Life's a spreadsheet, Excel!

    wow so fast,

I didn't realize that col_index_num was the return value, I was under the impression it specified what column in the array to lookup.

    Thanks all,
