    Where to start?

I need a cell to lookup if the text in another cell is in another cell in sheet 2, and then to input that data into the original cell

    Right so I have;

    Sheet 1-

J2 - "carbon" (but this is ever changing)
K2 - the cell i need the formula in.

    Sheet 2-

    A1 - "Carbon"
    A2 - "stick"
    B1 - "500"
    B2 - "100"

I need a formula so a cell (K2, sheet 1, in this case) checks if the words "carbon" or "stick" (whichever are in cell J2, as these aren't the only two words, as the cell is always changing) are in the second work sheet in the 1st column, and if it finds, say, "carbon" then it will update itself (K2) to that of B1 in the second sheet (so if K2 finds the word carbon in the second sheet at A1, then it will update itself to the value of 500)

I hope that isn't too confusing, I tried to explain the best I can.

    Thank you

    Thanks for the reply,

The formula doesn't return any errors, but doesn't seem to work. Just a blank cell.

I would have thought the formula would have to reference the cell J2, to determine which word is in it, in order to search sheet 2 for that word?

    Thanks

    Re: Where to start?

    Still no luck,

I need cell K2 to check cell J2, lookup the contents of cell J2 in column A of sheet 2, then I need cell K2 to update itself with the info in the cell next to the matching cell in sheet 2.

So if J2 says "dog" K2 looks at J2, sees it says "dog" and searches the whole of column A in sheet 2 for the string "dog". say it finds the word "dog" in A45 (sheet 2) I need K2 to update itself with the info in cell B45 (sheet 2)

What result do you get from the formula?
