    Using Vlookup and Max together

I have attached a file, what i am trying to do is find the highest letter in column A, look up the highest number associated with the highest letter in column A for column B and again for column C.
The problem is that column B only looks up the first instance in column B that matches A, when I try to use MAx for column B i only get errors etc, can anyone help me with the correct forumla please.

Note what i would like the forumla in the worksheet to return should be:
    Column A = E
    Column B = 5
    Column C = 5

    To get largest letter:

    =CHAR(MAX(CODE(A1:A7))) confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

to get largest number associated with that:

=MAX(IF(A1:A7=F1,B1:B7)) where F1 contains the letter from formula above, confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER
Where there is a will there are many ways.
