    Excel Formula Assistance

I wonder if anyone can help?
I need to do some root cause analysis and have been provided with raw data. As part of the analysis I need to be able to look at one column (Column X) and identify a string in there (e.g. Large Loss) but then I need to look at a second column (Column Y) and identify the number of times a reason appears (e.g. Other). Basically, I'm trying to show the number of times "Other" was registered against "Large Loss".

    Hello
If I understand you correctly, 'Large Loss' is part of string of text within each cell and 'Other' is a single word in each cell, then maybe something like the following formula might work for you:

Here I've just referenced rows 2 to 11 but you can amend that to whatever your range is.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Carlos,

Glad you got the answer you were looking for, but next time please refer to the forum rules and pick a title more appropriate.

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

If you are satisfied with the solution(s) provided, please mark your thread as Solved.

    New quick method:

Or you can use this way:

How to mark a thread Solved
    Go to the first post
    Click edit
    Click Go Advanced
Just below the word Title you will see a dropdown with the word No prefix.
    Change to Solved
    Click Save
