I have no idea where to start, but here we go.

I’m a land surveyor and currently this is what we do. We use ascii text file in the format of “Point number, northing, easting, elevation, description” and use Carlson to import the data into AutoCAD which will place the points. We use Carlson to generate our plan/profile sheets. We will draw our centerline and create station/offsets (of the points) from that centerline. The problem occurs when we need to re-route the centerline. We have to totally regenerate the station/offset and re-draw them.

What I’m looking for is a routine that will use our ascii file to create the centerline and calculate station/offset for each point, add that data (station/offset) in an additional field, have that new in the acsii file be able to import into AutoCAD and use that additional field be an attribute to the node. If we have a re-route we can just adjust the centerline data and have new station/offset generated. Then when we reload the drawing, it will read the new ascii file with the updated data.

Can this be done? Also I know NOTHING about Excel.

Thanks in advance
