Good afternoon Will2839
...and welcome to the forum!!
Could you provide an example of what type of information is contained in these cells. What's the format of the cells, always the same letter, ever any more than one letter etc?

Please familiarise yourself with the rules before posting. You can find them here.
If it is always just one letter, tryconfirmed with Ctrl+Shift+Enter. Please Login or Register to view this content.
In the row of cells,Sometimes there will be an R in the cell with a number.
Always a R and It could be before or after the number it would not matter
I would need to add these cells that have an R in them.and add the number part of the cell
OK, tryconfirmed with Ctrl+Shift+EnterPlease Login or Register to view this content.
Sorry DARKYAM . That one did not work
Would you have something else
It works for me when I try it. Did you hit Ctrl+Shift+Enter after you entered the formula or just Enter? Also, if these "R"s can be either uppercase or lowercase, the formula would have to be adjusted toconfirmed with Ctrl+Shift+Enter. Please Login or Register to view this content.
If neither of these is the issue, could you please post a sample workbook with the results or tell us what is happening when you try the formula?
Sorry DARKYAM .
That one did not work
Would you have something else
just enter,i'll try it again
Sorry Darkyam,
It come up with a value error
Can you please post a sample of the data you're working with that shows this error?
=SUM(SUBSTITUTE(AF11,"R"," ")+0)
This works on 1 cell i cant get it to work on a row E6:AI6
Any thoughts
Without seeing a workbook, it is hard to pinpoint the issue. I would replace the " " with "", but if it is working for one cell, then it doesn't appear to be the problem. Does your formula have curly brackets {} around it? These come when you confirm the formula with Ctrl+Shift+Enter but disappear any time you try to edit the formula. If they are not there, please add them by confirming the formula again. If this does not solve your issue, posting the workbook is the best way to get this solved.
What would the formula be with any letter? I used both of the samples above for my document and it worked. But I frequently have values that consist of numbers with different letters.
Thanks.
bautista,
