counting adjacent cells that match a criteria

    Hey All,

Thanks in advance for your help. I have already had a great experience with this site and plan to continue visiting

My question deals with the attached excel sheet. What I would like to do here is count the total number of times each SKU in sheet (sell thru week 1) is ordered in total sales week 1 by a specific person.

Essentially the formula needs to crawl through total sales week 1 look at each row to see if the sku matches, and if the created by field is gm2011. If possible I would like to be able to copy the formula into the lower cells to get the total amount shipped by gm2011 per sku.

Thanks in advance! What takes you guys 30 seconds takes me 4 hours!

    chrisvacek,

I'm not 100% sure this is what you're looking for, but from what I could glean...
Using your provided workbook, in sheet 'Total Sales week 1' cell K2 and copied down:

Summing column K provides a result of 390. Is that what you're looking for?
    Hope that helps,

    Hey Ace,

This worked beautifully! Now if I wanted to do the same thing with a different person (say John Schild) would I just need to change the name in quotes or would it be more involved than that?

    Thanks,

    Hey Tiger,

Thanks for the help but I don't think that's what I am looking for. Also are you talking about column k in total sales week 1? That field is empty so I am wondering how you are getting a result there.

    I do appreciate your help!

    yep..that should do it.

You might want to explore pivot tables too...

Is the name in quotes case sensitive? For example would "JOHN SCHILD" Return the same results as "John Schild"

    Thanks!
