Frustrating Excel Formula! I do not know where to begin

    Hello Excel Gurus,

I have a problem where I need to match certain defined groups of parameters to where they would be popping up in a historical sheet. For instance: Identity 1 could be defined as 101-105 and Identity 2 could be 109-112...but these will not pop up in order! I need a way to match these parameters to these different identities! The sheet attached helps, sorry for the vagueness!

    Thank you for your help!

    Maybe:

    =IF(COUNTIF(A2:A6,101)+COUNTIF(A2:A6,102)+COUNTIF(A2:A6,103)+COUNTIF(A2:A6,104)+COUNTIF(A2:A6,105)=5,"Identity 1","")

Re: Frustrating Excel Formula! I do not know where to begin

I appreciate the replies, and those would work. But I am looking ahead at what I need to do and I realize that I did not ask this question properly. I am going to have a type of database sheet that is going to have what parameters all of the different identities are, and I need the formula to somehow use that. I was thinking about using names or something, I am still unsure. I attached an updated form to maybe help clarify.

    Thanks once again!

    Also - tartarus:

Is there a character limit on the formula field? Because I could go through and type them in like that if need be instead of using the database thing, but there are going to but dozens and dozens of these "identities"...any ideas?

Re: Frustrating Excel Formula! I do not know where to begin

Looks like you want to work your way from the middle toward both ends, enlisting help without disclosing what the ends are or which end you want to reach first. An endless formula will not give you what you want.
You seem to have realised that the construction of your list of identities is key to the problem. So, why not work on that list? Where do the numbers in your list come from? Is it something like if you are free (100), white (101) and 21 (102) your identity is #1?
In such a scenario you would have a number of check boxes and by the time you clicked "married" it's already clear that you aren't free and therefore not of #1 identity. Hence, the solution would have to be found in the evaluation of the check boxes and certainly not in a formula like we have been looking at.
