How to autosum a range of numbers

    Hi everybody,

I'm trying to develop a control utility so I can see how much time I use on every work task.

I've given every work task a serial number, but my problem is: How can I let excel autosum the time according to the serial numbers.

I've attached a test document so it's easier for you to understand my problem (in the document I've summed the time manually)

I hope you can help me. All good advices/ideas in connection for developing a control utility will be happily received.

You could use a filtered list and the SUBTOTAL function

Filtering the list based on the serial number and the Subtotal function would only add those items displayed

I have attached your file with a filtered list and the Subtotal function

Try in C4 and copy down.

    =IF(A5=A4,"",SUMPRODUCT(($A$4:$A$120=A4)*($B$4:$B$120)))

I use sumproduct to calculate the sum of the time.
Here attaches the updated file for your reference.

    Book1.xls

One remind is that if the work code does not group together, the sum will display multiple times.
(But the sum value will not be affect it remains the same)
