Identify Part of Serial Number and Check to See if it Exists in Two or More Categories
I'm having trouble trying to phrase this question, so I'll show an example first.

I want to search the entire spreadsheet for instances where just the first 3 characters in column B, show up in different categories in Column A. I would greatly appreciate any help on this. Thanks!
Do you mean entire spreadsheet?
Then try using FIND (Ctrl+F) for searching the value. Not sure whether this is what you are looking for.

@ Sixthsense, thank you for responding to my post. I'll try to clarify. I have two columns. Column A is "category". Column B is the "product" number. I'm trying to get Excel to identify and isolate instances where the first 3 numbers of a "product" show up in more than one "category". So say my categories are Red, Blue and Yellow. I'm trying to find when the same 3 characters from a 7 digit number fall into different categories. I need Excel to "zero in" on just the first 3 numbers and come back with the results IF those 3 numbers are in, say for example BOTH the Red and Blue categories.
Maybe you mean something like this?

@ Oeldere, thank you as well for replying to my question. This isn't quite what I'm looking for, and I apologize for being unable to explain properly. I have a list of 5,000 or so product numbers. They are seven digits long. These product numbers have categories assigned to them. I am not trying to identify duplicate numbers within a category. Instead, I am trying to find ONLY when the first 3 digits of a number are in different categories. So if a number is 02B63ZZ. I want to find out if there are any numbers that start with "02B" in more than one category.
With helpcells and sorting of pivot table i come to this result.
