Lock particular column with hiding formulas with other columns being active

    Hi,

How do i lock particular column/cell with hiding formulas with and other columns/cells being active for updating the data in the same sheet.

For example : In Sheet1, Column A, i want to hide the formula and lock the column A only and should be able to update other columns, say column B,C,D etc in Sheet1 only.

If i follow the below steps, i am able to hide and lock the cells but unable to make any changes in other columns as the entire sheet is getting locked.

    1. Select the range of cells whose formulas you want to hide. You can also select nonadjacent ranges or the entire sheet.
    2. On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click Format, and then click Format Cells.
    3. In the Format Cells dialog box, on the Protection tab, select the Hidden check box.
    4. Click OK.
    5. On the Review tab, in the Changes group, click Protect Sheet.
    6. Make sure the Protect worksheet and contents of locked cells check box is selected, and then click OK.

You need to remove the default Locked setting before protecting the worksheet. Select the cells you want to be active, click on Format Cells and untick Locked. Save and protect your worksheet.

If you attach a sample of your workbook it will be easier to find a solution. Remember to remove/replace sensitive data before uploading the file. Look here if you need help with attachments:
