Multiple criteria on an Index match

Hi, in the below format, I need to find out the row in which the number on the left (1) appears in the table on the right, while also matching the criteria that the date associated with it falls between the start and end date of the table on the right. so in this example, I wouldn't want to pick up the first instance of 1 as it doesn't meet the date criteria. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

    Number...........Date........Row Number.......................Number.....Start Date........End Date
    ...1...............16/10/12.............???...................................4..........06/10/12.........09/10/12
    ..............................................................................1..........05/10/12..........12/10/12
    ..............................................................................2..........12/10/12..........17/10/12
    ..............................................................................1..........13/10/12.......... 18/10/12

Asking twice might be a mistake, but three times?
