    I am trying to figure out how to subtract time.

    I have attached the file. I am trying to figure out how to subtract time. EX =F3-G3 But for some reason this dont work?
    I would like the end result to be 8:00AM - 5:34PM = 9:34

    Try =G3-F3, as G3 is later than F3 and format the cell as [h]:mm.

    Not sure why you are subtracting G3 from F5 in cell H3, but you can do this instead:

    =F5-G3+(G3>F5)

    and apply a custom format to the cell of [h]:mm
