    Help please, countif Vlook up???

    hi all

can some one help me please, i have an issue trying to work out what formula to use for the following -

I have a list of names and job types i.e.

    Column A
    SWALKER
    BMILNES
    HSMITH
    JEDWARDS
    SWALKER
    HSMITH
    BJONES
    BJONES

    Column B
    INSURANCE
    INSURANCE
    CASH
    ACCOUNT
    ACCOUNT
    INSURANCE
    INSURANCE
    INSURANCE

I'd like to know howmany "insurance" jobs BJONES completed for example in column "D" based on an alphabeticale list of peoples names in column "C"

    Thanks

    Try

    =COUNTIFS(A:A,"BJONES",B:B,"insurance")

Create a validation list for "names" in eatch column in 2 cells and use these cell references in this formula.
