Using conditional formatting to recognize values in two columns to highlight a row

    Hi There!

I've been coming to this site for some time now to get advice on various functions within excel, and I thank everyone of you for your knowledge and willingness to help since. I have learned so much because of all of you. But for the first time, I cannot find this specific problem. I believe it is because the excel that this office utilizes uses conditional formatting in a different manner than previous versions. Or perhaps its a mac version.

Anyway, here is the problem I am having.

My version of Excel is Excel:Mac 2008. (not my choice)

I am trying to highlight a row of cells when 2 conditions are met. The first condition that I need to be met is a cell in the row I want highlighted with a one of two words entered. The second condition is a separate cell in the same row that is 40 days past the date entered.

    IE:

When, lets say, Apple in the first cell is entered and the date entered in the second cell is 40 days or more past, the row both cells are in will change colors. OR When, lets say, Orange in the first cell is entered and the date in the second cell is 40 days or more past.

I have been able to do this using my Excel at home (PC version of Excel 2007), however it is my understanding that Excel:Mac 2008 doesn't use "rules", or just uses some variation of them, causing the condition not to function.
