    [SOLVED] Counting unique elements based on a date range

    Hi guys,

    I've looked all over for a solution to my problem and can't seem to get any to work. I have a spreadsheet that has a very large amount of information. What I'm trying to do is to count the number of unique items (techs) by month from a sheet that is composed of raw data (exported from a website and pasted in to excel).

    Example: my worksheet is broken down by months, and i want to count the number of "unique" technicians working in that month. currently my spreadsheet raw data has over 120,000 rows and counting.

    put the following ARRAY formula in B5 and drag-fill down:

    in case value in 'Billable Hours' cell A5 can be any date (i.e., not first of the month), and column 'Raw Data' column B will never have blanks...

    CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
    Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.

    Thank you i.c.z, top one worked great, for some reason the second one gave me a 1 even when there was no data.
