combo boxes and list boxes

I tried to watch a couple youtube videos about combo boxes, but they kind of blow by the cell link part, and I don't really get what they're about.

In the attached sheet, I am thinking I'd like to have a drop down list/ combo box in column D. the list/source for those choices is on sheet 2, a2:a19.

If I'm going to have 1000 or so rows, does it make sense to do it this way?

in playing around with it, If I leave the cell link thing blank, it let's me replicate it, but my countif field counts them all as the first list item.

What I'm trying to do is idiot proof the sheet, so that when the users put in a source, I'm sure it matches one of the choices, and counts properly.

Why not use data validation and refer it to the list on sheet2? Select your cell, Data, Data Validation, List, Source: =Sheet2!A2:A19
