I found the following formula on another website after much searching. I thought this would be a more common problem.
Its purpose is to search multiple columns and return the column heading where the match was found. It works as advertised, but I would like to alter it a bit to allow for partial matches. I tried editing it to the following to only check the first 3 characters, but it does not seem to recognize the wildcard.
Attached is an example worksheet. Thanks in advanced for the help.
P.S. The end of the formula
seems to serve no purpose, it just subtracts 1 and then adds 1 from what I can tell. Am I correct in thinking that doesn't need to be there? I wasn't sure if it was there for some reason I cannot see.
