Formula to add or subtract on one cell to affect the next cell.

I'm new to Excel and this forum... Please forgive me if this has been covered before, but I'm trying to work a running inventory and I would like to add or subtract a quantity in one cell and have it automatically update the total in the second... Is this possible?

    Hi msan65,

Welcome to the forum. I think your question can be done pretty easily. But just in case, can you add a workbook with what you expect the results to be.

More information for us to look at the better.

Anyway... just wanted to throw it out and maybe it will stick... but for running totals, a simple SUM function with absolute referencing works best for me...

For example: column A has 1,2,3,4,5... column B has this formual in B1: =SUM($A$1:A1) then copy this formula down...
You'll notice that the first SUM is from A1 to A1... then the next SUM is from A1 to A2, next is A1 to A3, etc. (we "anchor" A1 initially with the $s)

    Hope that helps,
    Dennis
