How to make a particualr cell to disappear from a spreadsheet and make it to appear again!

    Hi guys,

I want to hide 2 particular cells from my spreadsheet (not permanently tho) when other people are around then make it appear again.

What would be the most simplest but effective way to make this work on my excel spreadsheet?

Please find attached the sample file below.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

You can't really make the cell disappear, but you could use some conditional formatting to hide it.

In the attached file I've use conditional formatting on the two cells such that if A1 is not empty then the foreground and background colours are changed to white and the top, bottom and left borders are removed - so the cells effectively disappear.

Press Ctrl-Home wherever you are on the sheet, then just type anything in A1. Delete the contents of A1 when the "spy" has gone.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi jjin

Here's another two examples from a beginner like me.
You can use the buttons (using easy macro) to hide the entire column, or simply double-click to apply or remove an conditional formatting similar to Pete_UK.

Happy Holidays to you and all.

    Hi Anka,

i like your idea of double-clicking a cell to apply a conditional formatting. By the way, can you please explain how you format the cell in yellow (tick and unticking the cell)?

I am ok with applying conditional formatting.

    Cheers,

    @jjin,

Maybe this article will help with the double click method.

    Hi Jeffrey,

Thank you for sharing the link with us. It certainly helped me with applying the double click effect in my excel spreadsheet. Now, just out of my curiosity, would it be possible to use a button instead of double clicking a cell to apply the conditional formatting effect?

I don't see why not, but all depends on what kind of button you want.

As easier method would be to use data validation. Pick a cell and place a data validation with maybe Yes and No.

Then on the conditional format for the cell to hide with the format >> =$J$5="Yes"

Now when you select Yes the conditional format will activate.
