Attempting to use an Averageif and index/match but having trouble

Alright, I am going to attempt to explain this without uploading a spreadsheet so please bare with me:

Columns: A B C D E

1 Company1 Company2

2 1Q10 1/20/10 20 2/2/10 15

3 1Q10 2/20/10 40 3/12/10 11

4 1Q10 3/2/10 22.5 3/25/10 16

5 2Q10 4/18/10 16 5/4/10 12


Now, what I want is to have a table (#2) that reads

Columns: A B C

1 Company1 Company2

2 1Q10

3 2Q10

For cell B2, in this table (#2), I want it to look in the first table and take the average of all the numbers in 1Q10 and for Company1, then in cell c2, I want it to look in the first table and take the average of all the numbers in 1Q10 for company2.

Im wondering if i need to use averageif, index, and indirect/address? Thanks!
