conditional formatting to highlight what is late

    hi guys,

i have a bunch of dates in column C, and column D is empty (to be populated with dates eventually), i need it to go green if the date either on or before column C's dates, and red if it's passed (and no formatting if cell is blank!)

can't for the life of me get it to work.

You can use conditional formatting with two rules...

    =D2>C2 >> Red
    =D2<C2 >> Green

    Hi Jeffrey,

i have tried to be that simple minded honestly! it just doesn't work for some reason? seems to affect cells above the one i'm using and doesn't seem to be true to the adjacent cells.

    any idea what's going on?

One key to remember, whatever the first cell, ensure you highlight the range starting with the first cell.

    Example: First condition =D2>C2

Make sure you hightlight the range with D2 and down
