Thanks for the guidance, however, there is always a however, later in the spread sheet the "blank" cell is sumed or + to another cell and the #value! error message comes up???

suggest you post your spreadsheet sanitized for confidential material so that we can see the whole picture. Difficult to determine what is happening without seeing everything.

Thanks again for guidance, however, this newby to both Excel and this web site found it easier to figure out the answer than to figure out how to post a portion of my spread sheet to this site. Next question. Does Microsoft Excel 2007 have the ability so that one could click on a cell and a drop down box would appear with various options that can be chosen for the cell?
