Custom date to three columns works for dayand year but not month?

I have a column with custon date and time (hourly weather data). I neeed to separate it into three columns and have used the formula =Day (A1), =MONTH(A1) and =YEAR(A1). Day works fine, I think year is fine but the month column stays at 01 in the separated columns. But then when I recombine the three separate columns BACK into yet another column I get the right combined date back!!!!

What am I missing please? What is my problem? I have attached a portion of the file.

Format the cell MMM in the custom area and it will appear as Jan, Feb, Mar, etc.

That doesn't seem to change anything? If I cahnge it in Column A and redo column D it stil lall stays as Jan.

Month returns the month number, 1 to 12.

Formatting it as m tells Excel to interpret the numbers 1 to 12 as the dates 1/1/1900 to 1/12/1900, the month of all of which is 1. Change the format to General.

Format cells as: "General", not "mm"

Oh so simple! General was the ONE thing I didn't try! Thank you so much.
