Find text in range of cells and add to table if it does not exist in range

    Hello all,

First ever post, although ive been a member to the forum for some time.

Hope you can be of service.

I have a database which includes bond names and the face value of these bonds.

On a separate table below this database, I have already created created a field where it adds together the face values of these bonds. The formula is =SUMIF(D:D,G103,V:V) where D:D has the bond names, G103 is the specific bond whose face value I am looking for, and the values in V:V are the face values.

I cant figure out how to get G103 (and the rows underneath it) to search the original database automatically recognize whether I have already copied the deal name down to the separate table below, and if it does not already appear, copy and paste the value in the table.

I hope that was clear. Please let me know if I can clarify.

    Your help is mucho appreciated!
    Dan

This site shows how you can extract a unique list automatically using a simple array formula:

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Pete. Not sure why but those formulas are not working for me. When I use them I get a message saying excel ran out of resources and a result of 0s down the board.

If you post an example workbook, I'll have a go at setting up the formula for you. The FAQ describes in detail how to attach a workbook to your post - basically, you click on Go Advanced while you are composing or editing your post, then scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, then click on Add Files | Select Files (navigate to your file and double-click it), then click Upload File, then Done, then Submit Post.

    Hope this helps.

Thats a kind offer but - I am very excited to report - its working!

I didnt see that the formula referring to column B has to start at B1 rather than B2. Hope my mistake is a lesson to all.

    Thanks for everything, Pete.
