Countif/sumif excel formula

i need a formula where you have column of dates. if the date is there, i want it to add towards the counter. so for example if the column has a total of 3 dates listed in it, the formula should display the number 3. what formula should i use?

Basically i want this:

Column A

1/1/2012


4/2/2012
5/1/2012
4/10/2012


Total: 4 (formula would be here)
