    advanced summaries

    Hi,

I need to know if an specific type of summary is possible.

    On the attached sheet-

Column A shows 2 jobs that are both running in shift 1 and require 2 members of staff to complete each job.

As a general summary that is stating that 4 staff would be required in shift 1.

However, that's not the case as these jobs are run one after the other so the same 2 staff on the first job could do the second.

I need a formula that assess the number of jobs and staff in a shift, and generates a figure that isn't a total number of staff but assesses the staffing requirements and produces a figure that can cover all those requirements.

Not sure how easy that is...

How do you determine if the jobs can be done by on hand staff?
A picture may be worth a thousand words, BUT, a sample Workbook is worth a thousand screenshots!
-Add a File - click advanced (next to quick post), scroll to manage attachments, click, select add files, click select files, select file, click upload, when file shows up at bottom left, click done (bottom right), click submit

Because the jobs run one after the other. For this hypothetical exercise that's what the gaffer's have asked me to look at!

    Re: advanced summaries

Okay, you know they run one after another, I know they run one after another, so do we assume that any job that is listed on the same day can be run by on hand staff? or are there jobs that may need other staff as well?
If the first you could use something like this:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Thanks dredwolf, that's the sort of thing I need. What does the MAX signify?

    Thanks

    Re: advanced summaries

The max gets the larges value in the array...in the case of your sample 2, change the value of one of the staff required cells to a higher number, and it will return that instead
