2003 Conditional Formatting

I am trying to CF a column that has multiple names in a single cell say C2 - Dennis, Phillip, Jeff, etc. then in cell C3 I might have Joan, Patty, Jeff, etc. I need a way to get CF to highlight those duplicates for me. I have tried =countif(C:C,C2)>1 and it only seems to work for some cells in column C but, not all. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your time and consideration. D

Hi, Its been a while since I used 2003, what you could do is highlight the complete range then go into CF and set a rule for each name to have a different background colour this would show up your duplicates at a glance. hope this of some help
