Post Need to make one named range equal to another named range with IF function

Hi, I need to do something along the lines of:

    if cell A1= "1", NewRange=Range1. if cell A1= "2", NewRange=Range2, etc.....

In other words I need to make one range equal to any of several existing ranges depending on the contents of cell A1. Does that make sense? I have tried and no success. I get the #VALUE error or a circular reference error. I would very much appreciate help!!
