    Trying to use match and index but return a text not numercial answer

    I have three columns, the first two a and b have been set up with a validation drop down lists to allow for consistency
    I need to enter a location in column a ie upper control room
    I need to enter a number in column b
    I need column c to look up upper control room, match it to number 1 but return a text answer not numerical

    Apologies if this isn't how I should have aksed the question - excel forum newby

    In C1 and copy down, try this.

    =INDEX($H$4:$K$6,MATCH($A1,$G$4:$G$6,0),MATCH($B1,$H$3:$K$3,0))
