If statement if cell x is <12 add this wording, if cell y is =>12 add this wording

Draft Database EOC.xlsxI need to know how to put the following statement in an excel spreadsheet. If cell U5 is <12 (on a particular worksheet) add the following statement Missing (and what is located in cell I of a particular worksheet), if cell U5 is =>12 then add the following statement Missing (and what is located in cell I of a particular cell) plus Please correct. If neither is true then return, not used.

I am not sure if this is possible since it will be very lengthy in the cell. Any Help would be much appreciated. TIA!

I added the ? since "I" is a column and not a cell you will have to add the row number.

I am not sure that I will be able to do this function that I am being asked to do. If cell V5 <12 then I need the wording from cell D3 plus the wording in cell I3. I keep getting a #Value, which tells me I can't do this because of text. Is that right?

I bet you are using + to join two strings together. Wrong, you must use &,

The &" "& joins the value of D3 with the value of I3 and adds a space in between try it out and see if it works for you.

Does this formula work, say if all the information is located in sheet2 and I need it in sheet 1 cell C3? I did get it to work within the same worksheet. TIA!!!!

Yes you just need to chjange to cell address to refer to the other sheet so in place of V3 you would need Sheet2!V3 and so on.. for the other cells.

Are you limited to the amount of arguments?

If I recall Excel 2007 lets you use up to 7 if statements (I think that's 8 arguments) in a nested formula. I think that gives you lots of options but can get very confusing. Depending on what you need to do there may be several better ways to get it done.

Well I think that it'll be too many arguments because the total of all the characters would be 226 and I think that I have read there is a limit to 200 characters. Thank you so much for your help. I will have to work more on it tomorrow. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Maybe you should upload a sample file I think you might be misunderstanding the 255 character limit in Excel which has to do with sheet names and named range names. I don't know of a limit on text strings, if that's what you mean. Either way good luck!!

Re: If statement if cell x is <12 add this wording, if cell y is =>12 add this wording

I think that I have uploaded my document to the original post. I couldn't figure out how to add the attachment to the thread. What I am trying to do is a roll up on sheet2 from Edited Draft (7). In cell c10, it is based off of what is in u5. If u5 is0 then I want C10 to say Not Used if U5 is between 1 and 11 then I want C10 to read what is in cell D3 plus I3, If U5 is equal to V5 then I want c10 to read what is in D3 plus I3 and A48. I know this is kind of confusing, but for some reason I can't get it down. Thanks for your help.

Triscia, I added the formula to Sheet2 in C19 so you can see if it does what you want it to do. Looks like it works to me. The only thing I question is if you meant V5 or V6 in the last part since V5 has the line through it. That's easy to change.

Take a look and see if this does what you needed.
