    Count in two columns

    Hi all,
    I have two columns -Students column(Consists of many studenst) and year column(has many years),
    I want to find how many times does a student(Girish) has appeared in the year (2000)
    pls do eply.

    Have you tried the COUNTIFS formula?

    thanks but countifs is not working.
    if there are 2 columns
    Col A Col B
    a 1999
    b 2000
    c 2001
    a 2000
    r ........
    f
    In this 2 col find how many time 'a' has appeared in the year 2000??

    Yep, that's the formula alright.

    I will account using the two criterias: "A" & "2000".
