Question Associate a group of names to 1 ticker

    Hi All,

I want to create a database so I can associate a bunch of names to a specific ticker.

    For example tickers.xls

    As you can see

    FX Movie Prime
    DVD On TV 1
    DVD On TV 2
    DVD On TV 3
    DVD On TV 4

    is associated with "Movies"

I want a formula to create database where as once I see these names they auto input the ticker Movies with it.

Right now I manually go through the list and manually in put the associated ticker to the names.

What formula would I use for the future where I can just drag down and it will auto fill in the correct ticker? And How would I update(add) the associated names to the same ticker etc?

    Thanks in Advance

I am not really sure what you are asking here
What do you expect to see where?, if what you have uploaded is what you expect to see, then how do you manually achieve this?
if that is not what you expect, then I need to see some sample answers, if it is, then I need to know where/how you decide it gets the result''...

    EDIT-
It looks like it may be a simlpe "VLOOKUP", or "INDEX/MATCH solution, but Excel is not a mind reader, it works on information...

A picture may be worth a thousand words, BUT, a sample Workbook is worth a thousand screenshots!

    tickers.xls

Sorry, let me explain it clearly. Perhaps this sheet will be more accurate to what I am asking.

On sheet 2 it shows the names.
Sheet 1 is the data reference

Sheet 2 is the data that keeps changing.
I want sheet 2 to reference sheet 1. So whenever, we see the data on sheet 2, it will populate Column A on sheet 2 to the "tickers" on sheet 1.

Is there a better way besides vlookup or Index match?

the way you sample is set up, this works in A2:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    drag down

but I suspect you are looking for something more like this in A2:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    drag down

    (see attachment,'Sheet3')

    Hope this helps

    EDIT-
the second sample shows (sheet3) with episodes/movies deleted from the list, so you can compare results (the formula is exactly the same )
