User-defined variable to declare or modify range parameters

Hi everyone - I'm a self-taught excel user, which means I've taught myself how to do a lot of things in excel, but don't know if it is the best or most efficient way. Most important, I have no idea how much I don't know. Right now, I'm having a problem with a spread sheet I'm doing for work. It consists of a list of classes with admin and logistic information about each class entered by a user - a program manager or faculty. The number of classes in each category can change, as can the number of categories.

I'm trying to use use-supplied cell values as variable to declare ranges and set their parameters. For Example, cell B2 asks users to identify the number of categories in the range called "Elective Courses." I'd like to use the numeric value in B2 to set the length of named-range "Elective Courses." Then, I'd like to have the user populate the range with elective categories.

Once the environment is set, I'd like to let the user add or subtract a category. Cell C3 would ask the user if they want to add a new category, or delete or edit an existing category. If the response is to add or delete, I'd like the range to expand or contract accordingly.

I hope someone can lead me in the right direction.

    Thanks

It would be helpful if you posted a sample worksheet and showed what the expected results are.
