Talking Use a formula to check if another formula contains specific text/string

    Can someone help me to guide me how to use a formula to find a text within another formula?

    example:

    A1 ='[2013-01 CFT Exec Summary_EXCO.xlsx]Conso YTD'!$Z$9

    I want cell B1 to validate A1 has updated or contained the file link to "2013-01 CFT Exec Summary_EXCO.xlsx" by returning a true/false statement.

    Appreciated!!

    Hi and welcome to the forum

    Im not exactly sure what you want here?

    If you are trying to see if the formula itself in a cell contains certain text, this cannot be done with a regular formula, because excel does not "see" the formula, it only "sees" the results of that formula
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

    Six, that will work if the answer is "2013-01 CFT Exec Summary_EXCO.xlsx". It will not work is 2013-01 CFT Exec Summary_EXCO.xlsx is part of the formula

    Ya, i realize excel only read the result not the formula, therefore hoping anyone know any solution to this.

    if there is no way to validate the file link, another workaround is I create a input cell for the filename and the other cells formulate to link to this will be directed to the file. Thus I only need to update the input cell to command the change.
