Combining IF, VLOOKUP with Validation Lists

I hope I describe this properly

I am trying to combine a VLOOKUP function that will look up details based on the value of another cell that has a validation list.

For example: If F3 = Contact 1, then VLOOKUP value in column 2 from an external file. If F3 = Contact 2, then VLOOKUP value in column 3, etc...

My VLOOKUP formula looks like this without the IF statement:

If this is too vague I will upload the files in question, but hopefully this is simple for the genius in this forum.

    Thanks

I'll think you have to use the function 'INDIRECT'
Please upload a file, that make it easier.

Thanks ratcat, that works except I had to add quotes to get it to work:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Next, I am trying to get I5 to change based on the value of F5. For example: If F5 = Contact 1, then I5 = Email 1. If F5 = Contact 2, then I5 = Email 2. I5 is also a validation list. Would I use the same LOOKUP function? I tried this but get errors:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Re: Combining IF, VLOOKUP with Validation Lists

I managed to figure it out myself. In cell I5 I used the following formula:

    Formula: copy to clipboard
