Creating a scatter graph with letters rather than numbers

I would like to create a scatter graph which plots the progress of children from the starting point in term 2 against the final grade in term 4. On each axis I would need it to be labelled with the letters a to j.

In order to plot the data in a scatter plot, you will need to assign a numeric value to each letter. Not sure exactly what "score" you would like to give each grade (A=1,B=2,C=3,... maybe? or maybe simply use each letter's ANSI code using the =CODE() function http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ma...in=HA102927526).

Once you assign a numeric score to each letter, then you can plot the numeric scores in a scatter plot. Then use the "arbitrary axis" techniques described by Jon Peltier to show the letter's on the axes http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ArbitraryAxis.html
