    Need to calculate incremental increase

    Hello

Let me try and explain my problem.

I have a total number for the year (Lets say 1200) and I want to spread the total over 12 months. but I don't want it spread evenly (100 per month) I want to increase the number incrementally month on month so that they all add up to 1200. Is there a formula that can do this?

    Thank you in advance

Re: Please help! need to calculate incremental increase

    1) Welcome to the forum
    2) This is a moderated forum, so please take a minute to read the forum rules at the Forum Rules link.
    3) The "Please help!" part of your title adds nothing to the description of the issue. I removed that for you.
    4) Can you describe exactly how you want the amount allocated over the months? Is it based on other values? A list of percents? something else?

Re: Need to calculate incremental increase

I thought i had replied but doesn't appear to have shown up - Apologies if it ends up in a double post

Thank you for the welcome and sorry for the title

I'm not very good at explaining this lol. I am doing a P&L for a project and have worked out that the total for the year is 3,300. But now i want to spread this out over 12 months but starting from 0 and increasing evenly so that the total for the year adds up to 3,300. This is so I can see monthly cash flow projections

    Thank you in advance

Re: Need to calculate incremental increase

It would be helpful if you posted a sample workbook that shows how you'd want that 3,300 allocated over the 12 months.
    To attach a file...
    • Click the Go Advanced button
    • Click the Manage Attachements button
...then find your sample file and attach it.

Re: Need to calculate incremental increase

    Thank you

I have attached a simple file of how the fields would appear in my document. I need a formula to work out the individual values for the months so that they increase steadily and have a total value of 3,300. I will have many lines which will need the same formula and i just don't have the time to work them all out individually.

    Thanks again

    Does this work for you?

It will only work for data that is being distributed over 12 periods though.

Re: Need to calculate incremental increase

You could use Excel's SYD function (sum of the years digits).
    Using your posted workbook...
This regular formula, copied across through M3, begins the calculation of allocation amounts

Is that something you can work with?
