    subtotals with multiple layers

I have a list of GL accounts that I want to use to build a multi layered income statement. It seems to me that the easiest way to create a dynamic statement would be to use the subtotal feature for most of it and then just change some of the formulas when I need to actually subtract not sum.

Here is my list of GLs (with just nonsense numbers so I could share it). I can't figure out how to make it automatically do MULTIPLE layers. I can get it to subtotal on ONE column (for example column G which is level 6) but as soon as I click on subtotal again to subtotal level 5, the level 6 subtotals disappear.

Is there a way to do what I am suggesting or do I just need to manually create the whole income statement with groups and pretty formatting?

    Thanks in advance!

You can do this but you need a value in every cell in each of the levels for the subtotal function to work with.

so what if I just put "ignore" in each of the blank cells? will that accomplish what I need?

You can't ignore them, they all need to have data in them for subtotal to work. Here's an example sheet of a P&L I did a while back for a small business. I cleaned out most of the businesses details but I think it should show you what I mean.

Rats. Looks like I'd have a ton more set up to do to get it to work that way. But thanks for the template. I may be able to incorporate some of the ideas from it.
