    VLOOKUP function problem

    Hello,
Is it required that the column in which the valued needs to be lookedup (searched) must be the first column of the table_array ?
As I have a table in which the column which should be looked up for a search value is the last one (column index -E) and the column from which the vlaue needs to be returned is the first one (column index- A) in the table_array. It means , the returning value column is in the left side and the searched lookup column is the right side in the table array.
What should i do in this situation ?
I am new to Vlookup function.
    Thanking you in advance.

Yes, for VLOOKUP to work in this sample formula, the searched value would need to be in column A:

    =VLOOKUP(M2, Sheet2!A:C, 3, 0)

For your scenario you should switch to INDEX/MATCH, this lets you match in any one specific column and return a value from any other column.

    =INDEX(Sheet2!A:A, MATCH(M2, Sheet2!C:C, 0))
