I would like to add conditional formatting to time in a whole column greater than 72 hours like only to highlight the time that exceeds the 72 hour mark... how can i do that?

Are the entries time values like 72:00 or are they decimal numbers like 72?

Like 72:00:00
Conditional Formatting:
=$A1>--"72:00"
Try this...
Let's assume the range to format is A2:A10.
Select the *entire* range A2:A10 starting from cell A2.
Cell A2 will be the active cell. The active cell is the
one cell in the selected range that is not shaded. The
formula will be relative to the active cell.
Goto the Home tab>Styles>Conditional Formatting>
Manage rules>New rule>Use a formula to determine
which cells to format
Enter this formula in the box below:
=A2>3
Click the Format button
Select the desired style(s)
OK out
