Help with a formula to help count # of Waves in Progress, # Completed

    Hi there,

I've been wracking my brains trying to figure out how to get a value returned if a date has passed and if so it would be coded as Graduated. For dates not yet passed it would return a value In Progress. Then from there a way to count # of Waves in Progress/# Graduated but how to eliminate it returning a total Num for all participants. See below screen shot example as I think it's better then my explanation.

I know the formula to return a value of completed/not yet completed however can't figure the best way to have a total count of Waves completed or in progress. Right now I keep getting a total sum for instance that GTAE1 has 2 completed, GTAE2 has 4 Completed and what I need is to return that GTAE1 & GTAE2 are 2 completed waves. VLM is 1 that is progress but I can't seem to get it...any help is greatly appreciated. There are a number of worksheets within a book, for each territory/region I have a separate sheet with a national tab to collect from all sheets.

Wave ID Start Date Completion Date Name # Waves in Progress 1
    GTAE1 11/16/12 3/15/13 Joe Shmo # Waves Completed 2
    GTAE1 11/16/12 3/15/13 Joe Shmo
    GTAE2 12/2/12 4/12/13 Joe Shmo
    GTAE2 12/2/12 4/12/13 Joe Shmo
    GTAE2 12/2/12 4/12/13 Joe Shmo
    GTAE2 12/2/12 4/12/13 Joe Shmo
    VLM1 2/14/13 7/5/13 Joe Shmo
    VLM1 2/14/13 7/5/13 Joe Shmo

    Hi karryan

COUNTIFS is probably not much use for you! Try the SUMPRODUCT function.

Kevin is right, the older version of Excel that you are running don't have COUNTIFS.
Instead of COUNTIFS in H1 try this:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
