Changing Cell Appearance Based on a Value

    Hi Everyone

I would appreciate the help of anyone who can point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

I want a formula which will allow a cell to become coloured if the Text value in another cell is equal to a certain word.

e.g. if cell A1 = "High" then A9 becomes Red, but if cell A1 =Low" then A9 becomes Blue, and if cell A1 = "Normal" then cell A9 becomes Green.

Hope that is clear to everyone.

    Many thanks,

    Ian

You do this using Conditional Formatting. Select cell A9 then click on Conditional Formatting, then New Rule, then choose "Use a Formula ...etc" from the bottom of the list.

For the first condition put in the formula:

    =A1="High"

then click the Format button, Fill tab and choose Red. OK your way out.

Repeat for the other conditions, choosing the appropriate colours.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Pete_UK
That has to be THE quickest answer I have ever had from any Forum posting.

Well done and thank you so much, it works brilliantly well and I am so very impressed.
