    Help with conditional formatting

    Hi all
    I am gradually getting the hang of conditional formatting, but have hit a brickwall! My spreadsheet has a colmun for each month of the year for 2012 and 2013 and I have applied a different colour depending on whether the 2013 column contains a figure higher or lower than, or equal to, the 2012 column. However, where the 2012 column contains a minus figure but the 2013 column contains a zero figure, I need this to be looked at, and coloured as, a reduction....any ideas??
    Many thanks
    Fran

    Re: Help with conditional formatting

    can you attach a spreadsheet

    This should do as a cond format for that condition - add a new rule
    CELL = AND(Cell_2012 <0, cell_2013=0)

    apply to the columns you want to format

    Re: Help with conditional formatting

    Hi
    Thanks for your quick response, unfortunately your answer is a bit too advanced for me! Could you give me something a bit more step-by-step please?
    I can't attach the spreadsheet as it's too large....Basically, no data has been entered yet for Apr - Dec 13 so all of the cells in this date range should be red. However, there are a handful that are green because the 2012 figure was a minus so technically a £0.00 is an increase. I need these cells to show red unless the 2013 figure is above £0.00, then it needs to go green as this will be an actual increase over 2012.
    I hope that makes sense!
    Thanks again

    Re: Help with conditional formatting

    What version of excel

    select the cells you want to apply the conditional formatting to

    goto conditional formatting

    assuming 2012 is in column A and 2013 in B

    A2 = AND(A2 <0, B2=0)

    and apply
