Trying to set up a formula that will allow selection criteria from 2 separate columns

On Action Tracker, want to show figures of how many actions are against each person but not including actions that are already at status complete.

Perhaps you could give a little more information on what you need to do. Perhaps an example workbook would help us give you a quick answer...

From the sounds of it you need to use either SUMPRODUCT or SUMIFS depending on which version of Excel you're actually using.

    Using excel 2003.

Have a spreadsheet for tracking actions on a project, actions are listed against different people and are given a status of due, in progress or complete. I want to show the no. of actions for each person but don't want already completed items included in those numbers. So looking for something where i can select a n other and all actions against them excluding completed actions.

So you want to show a list of the actions not yet completed by a given person or just the number of actions?

The number of actions, then i can put them in a chart and show comparisons for all persons.

Have a look at the attached. I think this is what you mean.

It's pretty straight forward, but let me know if you need any of it explaining.
