Question How do I automate the validation of excel created Hyperlinks?

    Greetings everyone

I am having trouble finding out if excel can validate hyperlinks that I have created.
I save pictures for 45 widgets that I must work on every week. It's a 40-60% chance that the widget will have 2 pictures or not.

Anyways, I found a way to conditionally create a hyperlink, and then copy it down for 45 rows so I have a custom link for each picture of the widget. However, like I said above, sometimes they will have 2 pictures, sometimes only 1 picture, hence 1 or 2 links will be needed.

Rather than having to clik on every link that I created to see if it will work and open up the pix of the widget (meaning I need to open up 90 links to manually validate that they work), is there a way where excel can do this so that if link is broken, then I can have it do something... like either turn the cell red, remove what's in the cell, etc (it doesn't matter)?

45 widgets worked on every week. 50% chance that widget will have 2 photos.
I put the photos in my desired location, and create a custom link on excel.
The link will not work if there is no photo for that widget. Other than manually checking if every link works, there has to be an automated way to do this so I don't have to spend my time cliking and opening and closing 90 links.

Somewhere else across the web it appears someone may have had the same question as me, and somehow solved with getaddr( function, but I don't know what this is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks

You could record a macro with a relative cell reference that would move down the links and click them automatically. You could also write one that doesn't need to record your actions.

Haven't heard of a process in Excel that would do that for you otherwise.

What do you mean "relative cell reference"?

I don't actually want Internet Explorer to open up with90 tabs (or how many of the links WILL WORK), I just want to know that if they are broken, I can trigger the cell containing the broken link to do something.

Google Link Checker or Link Verifier. You might be able to find some other options.

    Hi JPWRana

I did a quick online check and found a website that provides an overview of checking links using Excel. 'http://willem-keller.nl/how-to-create-a-link-checker-with-microsoft-excel/
The Excel Link Checker file is downloadable and you can extract / modify where appropriate for your project. I have had a go and was able to loop through a range of cells verifying the URLs without having to start up Internet Explorer.
    Hope this helps.
